In 2017, UNDP Bangladesh is focused on building collaborative partnerships with private sector organizations. These partnerships are housed within the UNDP-UNV Innovation Hub; a hub which unifies UNDP projects with private sector partners.
Through the Innovation Hub, Private Sector and UNDP invest/mobilize both finances and know-how. They jointly benefit from eight services of technical assistance: 1. Collaborative space and network events; 2. Why UNDP-UNV (marketing & branding); 3. Partnership tracker; 4. Horizon Scanning and Project Design; 5. Corporate Volunteerism; 6. Alternative Financing; 7. Piloting; 8. Data (Private Sector Impact on SDGs).
One of the services, Data (Private Sector Impact on SDGs), is being developed in partnership with Dhaka Chamber of Commerce & Industry (hereinafter “DCCI”).
This national UNV Volunteer assignment will be responsible for generating a centralized database to monitor and evaluate Bangladesh’s private sector companies impact on the SDGs attainment. Overall, this dataset will serve as a case study to enable the Government of Bangladesh to more accurately assess Private Sector progress against the national development goals as well as to enhance private sector decision-making.
Duties and Responsibilities
Under the direct supervision of the UNDP-UNV Innovation Hub Project Manager and the UNV Data Specialist, the National UN Volunteer will undertake the following tasks:
Support the efforts of the UNDP-UNV Innovation Hub in quantifying the Private Sector impact towards Bangladesh’s implementation of the SDGs;
Oversee primary data collection and secondary mapping to consolidate and quantify Pri-vate Sector impact on SDGs;
Work with the M&E Support Officers to make sure that all data solutions are consistent;
Create a database and develop algorithms to merge primary and secondary data with re-gards to Private Sector and SDGs;
Build the infrastructure required for optimal extraction, transformation, and loading of data sets from various Private Sector partners using SQL and ‘big data’ technologies;
Optimize database structure if required;
Identify, design, and implement internal process improvements: automating manual pro-cesses, optimizing data delivery, re-designing infrastructure for greater scalability, etc.;
Produce interactive data visualizations and user interaction environments;
Implement security, recovery tools and techniques as required;
Provides technical assistance to Private Sector Data Hub team members;
Build a database to ensure accurate data collection and monitoring;
Collect data for data flow understanding;
Map private sector activities with regards to SDGs;
Build advanced IT elements to ensure sustainability of the database;
The development of capacity through coaching, mentoring and formal on-the-job training, when working with (including supervising) national staff or (non-) governmental counter-parts, including Implementing Partners (IPs);
Age, Gender and Diversity (AGD) perspective is systematically applied, integrated and documented in all activities throughout the assignment;
A final statement of achievements towards volunteerism for peace and development dur-ing the assignment, such as reporting on the number of volunteers mobilized, activities participated in and capacities developed.

Familiar with Optimize database structure;

Required Skills and Experience
Master’s Degree in Computer science, Engineering, Statistics, Applied Mathematics, Physics, Computer finance, Economics or other related technical discipline.
3 years of relevant experience working on technical issues; Preferably related to computer and data management;
Experience in Database design, administration, and maintenance;
Knowledge on Web and graphic design;
Experience in Knowledge management, archiving and documentation.
